Is Weight Important for Our Health ?

Some of us consider that taking care of weight is only a matter of vanity and the interest in health is a mere fashion.
To support their lack of interest in such a matter, they sometimes point out that people in the past managed quite well without paying attention to calories or their blood pressure (they didn’t even know what that was). Also, people who lived in the countryside and worked their land probably had a healthier lifestyle in more than one way: they spent much time in the open (in places where pollution was low) and had a balanced diet consisting of home-grown produce rich in vitamins and minerals, whereas our food comes from tins, is grown using chemicals and fertilizers, which obviously spoils its natural goodness. That is why only half a century ago people lived longer and of course did not have many illnesses that we confront with. There was less obesity and fewer heart attacks.
Keeping weight under control and taking care of our general health is most beneficial from a medical point of view and people should become aware that blood pressure and excess weight are serious problems that we should be concerned with.
Nowadays, we have access to accurate information about optimum weights, vitamin values as well as the calories of a wide range of foods, which makes it very easy for us to devise diets that are healthy and nourishing and don’t bring about an increase in weight.
People who have started being concerned about their eating habits, and are now diet-conscious, claim that their quality of life has improved and they feel and look a lot better, even more attractive, now that they have got used to a more strict way of life. We should start looking into our habits and try changing them to meet our needs and pave the way to a healthier life at the same time.
