Prescription Drugs Online: Safety Tips

Because practically every type of commerce has gone online in recent years, it’s natural for people to expect to be able to buy prescription drugs online with little difficulty. But there are obvious problems to this. Whereas buying something like a book or a camera online comes with very few safety and security risks, buying prescription drugs online brings all sorts of risks that are difficult for governmental organizations to monitor or regulate.
If you’re considering buying prescription drugs online, here are some things to keep in mind:
1. Be careful: First of all, this should go without saying, but it can’t be overemphasized: Use caution. Only buy prescription drugs from sources that are vetted and completely legitimate. If a company seems shady, lacks relevant information about its location and certification, or just doesn’t seem to be very professional, you should not buy prescription drugs from them. You’re putting your life at risk if you do.
2. Know what you’re buying: The most common complaints about prescription drugs bought online is that they’re fake, too weak or two strong, are expired, aren’t made according to industry-wide safety standards, or aren’t labeled and shipped in the proper way. The only way to avoid these problems is to buy through legitimate companies that are transparent about what they’re selling you and that know how to handle and ship drugs.
3. You still need a doctor: Most of us are responsible adults who could likely be trusted to decide whether certain drugs are right for us, but the fact is that it’s illegal to get prescription drugs without a doctor’s note, and it’s also unsafe. Yes, there are some legitimate websites that can give you diagnoses and prescriptions online, but these have to meet certain requirements, and you may not be eligible to use them.
4. Check certifications: Whatever country you live in, there is an agency that oversees prescription drug sales. In the U.S., for example, the relevant association is the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, who provide certification to companies by giving them a Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites Seal. Information about this seal is online and completely transparent.
5. Read policies: Before you buy from a company, make sure you have a clear idea of what you’re getting into. Read their security and safety policies, and make sure you understand how their transactions work. Any time you encounter a site that you believe to be unlawful, report it to the relevant authorities.
